Class Descriptions and Attire

Shoes can be worn that you ALREADY HAVE until you outgrow them or until you need the required ones for the show.  

We only use Capezio, Hold and Stretch tights in the Show.  Colors we use are ballet pink, light suntan and black.  We will list the color used in the Show under each costume photo in March.                                         

Dancin' Tots 30 minutes; Age 2.  Students will experience body awareness, self-control, non-locomotor and locomotor movements, and cognitive learning with the help of their significant adult.  Attire:  Pink/Black leotard and pink tights.  Shoe: THEATRICALS, Pink, Economy Leather Full Sole ballet shoe, Style#T1000.

Creative Dance 45 minutes - Age 3.  1 hour - Ages 4-5.  Students will progress to a more independent level while exploring the introductory concepts of ballet, tap, movement, coordination, rhythm and balance.  Attire:  Pink/Black leotard and pink tights.  Shoes: Ballet: THEATRICALS, Pink, Economy Leather Full Sole ballet shoe, Style#T1000. TAP: THEATRICAL, Black, Child Easy Strap tap shoe, Style#T9050.

Beginner Classical Ballet:  PART of COMBO CLASS 
Total 1 hour, 15 minutes; Kindergarten and first grades.  Using the "Cecchetti Method", students will learn basic technique principles of Ballet while training at the barre and center floor.  Attire:  Black leotard and pink tights.  Hair:  Pulled up in a bun.  Shoe: THEATRICALS, Pink, Economy Leather Full Sole ballet shoe, Style#T1000.

Advanced Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced Intermediate/Elite/Advanced Elite Classical Ballet 1 hour; Grade division is listed on the schedule of classes.  Using the "Cecchetti Method", students will continue their training as they improve their technique through the exploration of balance,  coordination, lines and direction. Attire:  Black leotard and pink tights.  Hair: Pulled up in a bun. Shoe: THEATRICALS, Pink, Split-sole ballet shoes, Style#T2800.  POINTE/PRE-POINTE:  45 minutes:  Offered to students at the discretion of the teacher.  Shoe: POINTE/PRE-POINTE Purchase from Ellman's ONLY.

Beginner Jazz:  PART of COMBO CLASS Total 1 hour, 15 minutes; Kindergarten and first grades. Students explore basic jazz principles through barre and center floor work.  Isolations and rhythm are focused on while learning combinations put to contemporary and Broadway music.  Attire:  Any color/style leotards and tights/jazz pants. Shoe: THEATRICALS, Tan, Gore Insert Jazz Boot, Style#T7602.  

Advanced Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced Intermediate/Elite/Advanced Elite Theatre Jazz 1 hour; Grade division is listed on the schedule of classes. A continuation of isolations, barre and center work are taught at a more advanced level.  Attire:  Jazz pants/any color, style camisole leotards may be worn.  Shoe: ALL LEVELS: THEATRICALS, Tan, Gore Insert Jazz Boot, Style#T7602. 

Beginner Tap: PART of COMBO CLASS Total 1 hour, 15 minutes; Kingergarten and first grades. Combining rhythm, timing, coordination and style, students will learn the fundamentals and introductory terminology of tap.  Attire:  Any color camisole leotard and tights.  Shoe: THEATRICALS, Tan, Neoprene Insert Tap Shoe, Style#T9100.

Advanced Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced Intermediate/Elite/Advanced Elite Tap 1 hour; Grade division is listed on the schedule of classes. Students will build a sense of timing, rhythm and phrasing as they improve their technique through combination patterns and routines.  Attire:  Any color camisole leotard and tights. Shoe: Advanced BeginnerTHEATRICALS, Tan, Neoprene Insert Tap Shoes, Style#T9100C. Shoe: Intermediate/Advanced Intermediate/Elite/Advanced Elite: THEATRICALS, Black, Neoprene Insert Tap Shoe, Style# T9100.  

Advanced Beginner/Intermediate Modern 1 hour; Grade divisions are listed on the schedule of classes. A contemporary dance form that incorporates Jazz, Ballet and Modern techniques while maintaining lines and movement.  Ballet experience is encouraged.  Attire:  Jazz pants/any color, style camisole leotards may be worn.  Shoe: THEATRICALS, Tan, Gore Insert Jazz Boot, Style#T7602.

Advanced Intermediate/Elite/Advanced Elite Modern One hour; Grade divisions are listed on the schedule of classes. A continuation of the intro to contemporary with an added emphasis on expression, turns and floor work.  Ballet experience is encouraged.  Attire:  Jazz pants/any color, style camisole leotards may be worn.  Shoe: Capezio, Nude, Adult Pirouette II Leather Lyrical, Style# H062.

Advanced Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced Intermediate/Elite/Advanced Elite Hip Hop  1 hour; Grade divisions are listed on the schedule of classes. This form of dance is seen on television in music videos. Hip Hop evolved out of street and break dancing and is characterized by its' athletic and bouncy style. Hip Hop is done primarily to Rap and R & B.  Attire:  Jazz/Cargo pants/any color, style camisole leotards may be worn.  Shoe: Advanced Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced Intermediate: Black Hi-Top Sequin Sneaker by Double Platinum (NOT the ones with the fir inside)Shoe: Elite/Advanced Elite: Black Combat Boot by Double Platinum.

*Dancers must be enrolled in at least 1 of the following technique classes to take any hip hop class:

Intermediate/Advanced Baton Length of time depends on class and level; Grade divisions are listed on the schedule of classes.  During class, basic baton skills will be taught.  Students will learn rhythm, timing and technique while manipulating the baton!  This will include marching and twirling routines.  A focus on counting music will be incorporated.  Skills will be differentiated by learning to twirl multiple batons, flags and fire.  Attire:  Jazz pants or shorts/any color, style camisole leotards may be worn. Shoes: THEATRICALS, Tan, Gore Insert Jazz Boot, Style#T7602. Baton can be purchased on line.

Tap & Twirl 
1 hour, 15 minutes; Kindergarten and first grades.  
Combining rhythm, timing, coordination and style, students will learn the fundamentals and introductory terminology of tap. Shoes: TWIRL: THEATRICALS, Tan, Gore Insert Jazz Boot, Style#T7602. TAPTHEATRICALS, Tan, Neoprene Insert Child Tap Shoes, Style# T9100C.  Baton can be purchased on line.

 

Twirl & Hip Hop 1 hour, 15 minutes; Second and third grades.  Combining rhythm, timing, coordination and style, students will learn the fundamentals and introductory terminology of tap. Basic baton skills will be taught and students will learn rhythm, timing and technique while manipulating the baton! This form of dance is seen on television in music videos.
